If my « carte grise » is stolen / vol de la carte grise

Go to the gendarmerie or police of the town where your carte grise has been stolen « faire une déclaration de vol ».

Then go to the préfecture to obtain a « duplicata ». Bring :

- Your passport

- a « justificatif de domicile » (a “titre de propriété”, un “certificat d'imposition” ou “certificat de non imposition”, une “quittance de loyer” (if you rent, ask your owner or the estate age for a quittance), your last bill of “gaz”, “électricité” or “téléphone” or a “attestation d'assurance du logement”).  A bill is the easiest...

- the « déclaration de vol »

- a « demande de certificat d'immatriculation »

- if your car is more than 4 years, proof of a “contrôle technique”.

The « duplicata » becomes your new « carte grise ».

Do not forget to sign this « déclaration ». When you fill it in, you are « déclarant », you have to nothing to write in the part « cadre réservé à l'administration qui reçoit la déclaration ».
